Most kids growing up hate it if they have to wear glasses. They get teased and called names like "four eyes" or "geek" or "nerd".
Contact lenses are usually out of the question in the early years because a child's eyes are still growing and changing shape. Once a child reaches puberty, most of the rapid growth changes are over, and contact lenses become more practical.
I didn't get my first pair of contacts until I was in college. I ordered contact lenses online, from a place called 1 800 contacts. It was pretty easy, and since I already knew my prescription, it was a lot cheaper than going to the store for them.
I noticed an immediate difference in how people treated me after I began wearing contacts. When I wore glasses, people would assume I was very bright with my big owl eyes, and would always ask me questions about math or physics, or even current events in the news, but after I started wearing my new lenses from 1 800 contacts, people didn't make those assumptions. I felt wonderful and free to be who I wanted to be.
I was glad that I ordered my contacts from 1 800 contacts, except that sometimes they would burn my eyes. This is one of the most common side effects of contact lenses; eye irritation. If you wash them sufficiently, and frequently, it shouldn't be too much of a problem. Another thing is that you have to remember to take them out every night, and to change them frequently. Some people worry about the feeling of having contacts floating around on their eyes. It's odd, but once you get over the fear of placing them in your eyes - you rarely even know they're there. So much so, that I often forget to take them out at night and sleep with my contacts in.
It's also nice to have contacts because you can see better than with glasses. Glasses don't give you the full range of vision that contact lenses do. With contacts your entire peripheral vision is in focus.
The only thing that you have to watch out for is sensitivity. Some people cann't wear contacts, so the first time you call 1 800 contacts to place an order, make it a small quantity so you don't waste money on something you can't use.
