Some people jump at the chance to buy the latest electronic gadget. I don't know if it's a matter of "bragging rights" or just an infatuation with new time saving features, but I'm not the kind of person who takes electronic equipment purchases lightly. I prefer to buy products that will work well and last a long time. I also like the manufacturer to work out all the "bugs" in their new models and research the technology before I spend my money on something that turns out to be of less value than you might think at first glance. That's why when it finally came time for me to replace my 14-year-old handheld video camera, I didn't just grab my credit card and head for the nearest consumer electronics store. Instead, I spent several days reading as many digital camcorder reviews as I could find.
There are literally hundreds of digital camcorder reviews posted online. Most of these digital camcorder reviews are divided into two distinct categories.
- Digital camcorder reviews that are written by experts:
- These are professional writers and reviewers who work for tech and gadget magazines or websites and do this kind of thing for a living.
- Digital camcorder reviews written by other consumers:
- These are just average people like you and me who feel inclined to write and post digital camcorder reviews online.
Both types are helpful in different ways.
The professional digital camcorder reviews are very comprehensive. More often than not, the reviews cover nearly every aspect of owning and using a digital video camera. For example, if you want to know about particular specifications and performance features, you can count on these digital camcorder reviews to provide the details. Typically, the professional reviews also contain extensive comparisons to similar products by other manufacturers. This makes it easy to compare cameras on a brand-by-brand basis.
Digital camcorder reviews written by other consumers are also
worth checking out, but for different reasons. While a professional
reviewer might carry the camera around for a week or two before forming their opinions, consumers obviously use their cameras for a much longer time. They're in a unique position to tell about problems or issues that might develop later in the product's life, and consumers tend to "call a spade a spade" when posting their own digital camcorder reviews. They're not likely to have a hidden agenda, so you can be pretty sure of getting the straight story.
It was only after reading numerous digital camcorder reviews by both professional writers and average consumers that I decided which camera to buy. I'm very happy with the model that I bought and have been using it for many months without the slightest hint of a problem. I'm convinced that my successful purchase was due in large part to studying digital camcorder reviews prior to making my decision.
