Futons offer a type of versatility that cannot be found in traditional furnishings. With a futon, you can choose how thick or thin you would like your mattress to be, what type of frame would compliment your decor, and what color mattress or frame appeals to you. What's really nice is that you can get affordable futon covers in solids or prints to change the color scheme and look of your new furniture on a whim. Add a few throw pillows for a splash of color, and you'll dramatically change the appearance of the room you're redecorating.
If it's a spare bedroom that you would like to redecorate, with a traditional bed the options of decorating are much more limited, as chances are good that nobody is going to see it but you. Since a futon can double as a couch or a chair during the day, you can transform the spare bedroom into a home office, small entertainment room, you name it ... and still have the benefit of a spare bedroom for your overnight guests.
